Actalent Product Development Engineer in Cadillac, Michigan

Job Title: Product Development EngineerJob Description

The Product Development Engineer will be responsible for leading the design and development of new products within the filter department. This role involves building concepts and implementing processes to assemble products. Projects range in size and scope from six months to two years.

Responsibilities

  • 25-30% Fixture Design in Solidworks.

  • Design products as able, or collaborate with Sr. CAD Designer to explain parts and performance specifications.

  • Understand tolerance stack-ups and performance specifications to make recommendations or changes to designs.

  • 30-35% Setting up Assembly Process, revising and updating as needed based on process performance.

  • Operate with a Lean Manufacturing mindset.

  • 30-35% Testing and Creating Concepts including running 3D printers and ultrasonic welding.

  • Communicate with production staff to ensure understanding of assembly processes.

  • Set up and run 3D printers.

  • Work with suppliers to ensure components are designed and manufactured within product requirements. May require about three weeks of travel per year.

  • Run trials and collect data using statistical techniques (Statistical Process Control/Gage R&R), and debrief or explain data to the team.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 5+ years of product development experience, capable of leading projects from concept design to production process.

  • Proficiency in Solidworks for fixture design.

  • Knowledge of SPC (Statistical Process Control) to run trials and interpret data.

  • Experience in product design, hydraulics, pneumatics, ultrasonic welding, 3D printing, and plastics or rubber manufacturing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in machine building.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and Excel.

  • Ability to create and manage Gantt charts.

Work Environment

This is an on-site role working primarily in an office setting and a prototyping lab or workshop. The majority of time (75%) will be spent in the lab/workshop. The role reports to a manager based in the UK, with day-to-day management from a Principal Scientist on-site. Collaboration with other scientists and maintenance staff is required. Occasional travel to injection molders and the main customer in Baltimore (up to three weeks per year, typically three days at a time) may be necessary. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $49.04/hr.
