What’s the job?
The Plant Operations Manager is responsible for production, mill, maintenance, reliability, continuous improvement and training, and warehousing functions, ensuring the efficient operation of the CertainTeed Gypsum Board plant – achieving safety, quality, service, and cost goals.
This position is responsible for the overall success of the plant – having direct responsibility for the majority of the hourly workforce – the role substantially impacts the success or failure of the business. Leading a 24/7 manufacturing operation, responsible for all equipment and physical plant maintenance.
A strong understanding of manufacturing cost drivers and a solid knowledge of peer functional areas like Production, Process & Quality, Supply Chain, Engineering, Employee Relations, Purchasing, Materials Processing, and Continuous Improvement. Has accountability for overall plant operations, focusing on controllable cost budget development and attainment.
This position will influence with and without authority. The broad scope of knowledge in WCM (World Class Manufacturing) continuous improvement methodologies. Experience with OSHA regulations, including federal and state environmental requirements. The Plant Operations Manager represents the business on new product development teams and during regulatory audits in the absence of the Plant Manager. Acts as the Plant Manager during their absence.
What do you bring?
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Engineering or related field.
7 – 10 years in technical operations with increasing levels of responsibility in manufacturing.
Develops leaders in the organization and leads sustainable practices within the manufacturing operation.
Drives a proactive and interdependent safety culture by modeling and encouraging SMATs, Safety Talks, and participation in Safety Workouts.
Proficiency in Six Sigma, TPM and WCM (World Class Manufacturing) Lean Manufacturing concepts.
Strong written and oral communication skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
