Job Title: Automotive Mechanic -- Automotive Repair Shop

Location: Chesterfield, MI

Position Type: Full-time.  8am - 5pm w/ 1 hour lunch

Pay Rate: $20.00 - $45.00 / Based on experience

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Automotive Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of automotive engines. You will work on both light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles, ensuring that engines are running efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues with vehicle engines, including both gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventative repairs on engines, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Inspect and replace engine components such as pistons, cylinders, belts, and hoses.
  • Rebuild and recondition engines as required, following manufacturer specifications.
  • Test engine performance using diagnostic tools and specialized equipment.
  • Conduct engine diagnostics to identify problems with engine performance, emissions, or fuel systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of all repairs, maintenance, and inspections performed.
  • Keep up to date with the latest automotive technologies and techniques for engine repair and diagnostics.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to explain repairs and maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment by following safety protocols and maintaining equipment and tools.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; formal training from an automotive school or apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Proven experience as an automotive engine mechanic or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of engine systems, components, and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and repair procedures.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and repair machinery.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-oriented attitude.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • ASE certification or equivalent (preferred but not required).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy engine parts (up to 50 lbs).
  • Comfortable working in a garage or shop environment with exposure to noise, fumes, and various weather conditions.
  • Ability to crouch, bend, and work in confined spaces as necessary for engine repairs.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in a noisy, sometimes dirty environment.
  • May be required to stand for extended periods and work in a variety of weather conditions.
