Job Description

The Operations Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is the senior most operating officer for risk and risk-related governance within Operations and reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO) of U.S. Bank, with dual reporting to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of U.S. Bank. This role provides oversight of this enabling function’s control activities and ensures adherence to U.S. Bank’s Risk Management Framework, including Risk Appetite and Risk Scorecard metrics and to all risk-related and departmental policies, processes and procedures. The role oversees the ongoing identification and assessment of this enabling function’s material risks and key controls.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations CRO is responsible to oversee and direct activities to monitor ongoing compliance with our Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite requirements. This includes involvement in strategic planning, Operations design decisions and other key business decision-making. This leader drives the identification of internal and external events as well as potential scenarios that could adversely impact the U.S. Bank and the function. Additionally, this role is responsible to lead key risk program accountabilities across Operations: issue management, audit and exam management, assurance programs, operational and technical resiliency, regulatory change management, model risk management, data risk governance, compliance risk management, risk profile and control design as well as SOX, FRRC and SOCR.

The Operations CRO is responsible for the identification and escalation of material risks and control deficiencies to the appropriate parties, including significant instances where risks are not aligned with our Risk Appetite as well as significant instances of non-compliance with policy requirements. Other responsibilities include ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to evaluate root cause for adverse events, and to drive corrective actions to strengthen risk management practices or reduce risk across the enabling functions. They also ensure adherence to programs that are established to attract, develop, and retain the talent and staffing levels necessary to support U.S. Bank’s Risk Management Framework and Risk Appetite. 

The Operations CRO is a voting member of the Executive Risk Committee and several senior operating committees and subcommittees. They are a key member of the Operations Senior Leadership team and ensure appropriate risk governance and reporting within Operations in addition to ensuring the alignment of roles and responsibilities between the lines of business and the Operations team, defining ownership between shared functions, issues, and risks. They interact regularly with executive leadership across the bank and banking regulators. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expert understanding of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that impact Operations

  • Highly skilled relationship and negotiation skills as well as strong ability to manage through crisis situations

  • Exceptionally strong skills in leadership and management of process, projects, presentations and people

  • Exceptionally strong oral and written communication, interpersonal, planning and implementation skills

  • Experience managing a large senior team

  • Strong system skills (Microsoft 365)

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $274,295.00 - $322,700.00 - $354,970.00
