Position Summary

This position is responsible for designing, creating, and executing test cases to identify software defects, ensuring the quality of software applications by verifying functionality against requirements, while collaborating closely with development and business analyst teams to report and track issues throughout the software development lifecycle. Ensuring the Enterprise Technology (IT) department in delivering quality technology forward solutions. Contributes to standards and processes that play into the overall Enterprise Technology objectives, roadmap, and goals.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Review requirements documents, create detailed test cases, and design test scenarios to cover various functionalities and edge cases

  • Manually execute test cases across different platforms and devices, logging defects accurately in a tracking system

  • Clearly document identified issues, including steps to reproduce, expected behavior, and actual behavior, and communicate them to the project team

  • Monitors test cases for understanding, errors, and identifying areas of improvement

  • Re-execute test cases after bug fixes to ensure new changes haven't introduced new problems

  • Assist in setting up and maintaining test environments with necessary data and configurations

  • Work closely with developers, project managers, and other testers to understand requirements, identify potential issues, and discuss solutions

  • Maintain clear and concise test documentation, including test plans, test reports, and defect logs

  • Mentor's teammates and project team members on QA policy, procedures, and best practices, and activities

  • Communicates well with others

  • Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills

  • Able to lead testing efforts on small to medium sized projects and initiatives and ensures quality practices continue into standard operations and maintenance of the application lifecycle

  • Monitors the key performance indicators (KPI) to measure Grant PUD software and application quality; can identify key areas for improvement to strengthen quality efforts as needed

  • Create test strategies, plans, cases; execute test suites, create & triage bugs

  • Advocate for our business partners through adherence of the QA standards

  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently

  • Understand and adhere to compliance requirements for this position that may include laws, regulations, security guidelines, Grant PUD policies and procedures.

  • May operate a District Vehicle.

  • Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to:

  • Following all safety policies and procedures.

  • Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions.

  • Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and

  • Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.

Required Qualifications: (Education and Experience, License, and/or Certification)

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems/technology, technology business administration, Computer Science, or other related technology degree OR 2 years of relevant technology experience or internship in lieu of degree.

  • Three to five years’ experience in software testing

  • A valid driver’s license with no driving restrictions

Preferred Qualifications: (Education and Experience, License, and/or Certification)

  • 1 year experience in a customer/user application support role.

  • 1 year experience in leading testing for small to medium level software projects in an enterprise environment.

  • ISTQB Certified Tester, Foundation Level or Foundation Level – Agile Tester

  • SCRUM Master

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Grant PUD’s technology environment and policies

  • General knowledge of personal computer hardware and operating systems; network understanding.

  • Basic understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Proficient understanding of software testing methodologies

  • Ability to analyze requirements and translate them into test cases

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication skills to report defects effectively

  • Familiarity with defect tracking tools

  • Basic knowledge of programming languages

  • Highly motivated and able to work well in both team and solo settings.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
