Kenah One Health Care Services Substance Use Disorder Counselor in Glen Burnie, Maryland

Job Summary:

Kenah One Health Care Services is seeking a dedicated Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor to provide high-quality, client-centered care in our outpatient and residential treatment programs. The SUD Counselor will assess, counsel, and develop individualized treatment plans for clients with substance use disorders, guiding them through recovery with compassion and evidence-based practices.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum Alcohol and Drug Trainee (ADT) status.
  • Certification or licensure by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists is preferred (CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LCADC).
  • Experience working in substance use disorder treatment or behavioral health settings.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based treatment models such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and relapse prevention.
  • Ability to facilitate individual and group counseling sessions effectively.
  • Excellent documentation skills and proficiency in electronic health records (EHR).
  • Understanding of confidentiality and ethical standards in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including medical providers, peer support specialists, and case managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to determine the level of care needed.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for clients.
  • Provide individual and group counseling focused on addiction recovery, coping strategies, and relapse prevention.
  • Facilitate family counseling sessions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with medical and mental health professionals to coordinate integrated care for clients.
  • Educate clients on harm reduction strategies, relapse prevention, and coping mechanisms.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and provide clinical input regarding client progress.
  • Support clients in developing life skills and resources for sustained recovery.
