Corewell Health Unit Secretary Postpartum in Grand Rapids, Michigan

About the Unit

6 and 8 Center at Butterworth Hospital are secure units with 20 private beds on each that specialize in Women and Infant Services, specifically postpartum care of Mother Baby couplets, after labor and delivery. The average length of postpartum patient stay here is 2-3 days. The excellent care provided by the 126 members of our Nursing and Support Team within Postpartum, provides team members and patients with memories that last a lifetime. We're here to guide parents through this transitional period, offering assistance, education, and support every step of the way.

Scope of work

This role requires strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills. 2 years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting with use of Microsoft Office (Outlook Calendar, Microsoft Word, etc) is strongly preferred. Performs receptionist/secretarial duties and maintains confidential records, supplies and equipment per hospital and unit specific standards.

The Unit Secretary is the “go to” on each unit for clerical support. Responsibilities include taking phone calls, helping with directions to all visitors or outside team members to the unit (lab, radiology, patient transport, nutrition services, environmental services), calling support when directed by clinical staff, assisting with discharge, admit, and transfer paperwork, ordering supplies, ensuring rooms are appropriately stocked, answering call lights for any non-direct patient care needs, etc.

May be required to interface with patients in a clinical setting. Performs assistive patient care activities under supervision and as delegated by a Registered Nurse (RN) including transporting patients, passing waters, etc. per unit standards. Transport equipment to patient care areas as needed.

Orientation

Training weeks may require weekday shifts 7am - 7:30pm, prior to starting the regular cadence of weekend shifts.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent

  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 60 days

  • Prior relevant experience is preferred
