POSITION SUMMARY

Summary:
The purpose of the Patient Access Department (scheduling, registration, switchboard) is the scheduling, registration and gathering of information for the use by the hospital and physicians, and to appropriately satisfy the patients’ financial obligation to the hospital. The registration clerk arranges for the efficient and orderly admission of inpatients, the registration of outpatients, ensures that accurate patient information is collected, verifies insurance benefits and eligibility. Ensures that all incoming telephone calls are promptly and courteously answered and routed to the correct extension within the Hospital. Performs paging, announcement of public messages, when necessary and responds to all inquiries in accordance with the Hospital policy. Greets all visitors to the Hospital promptly and courteously. Direct visitors to appropriate areas. Arranges for patients to speak with financial counselor if needed.
Work Schedule:
Department is 24/7; position is required to work any shift necessary to support our patient volumes
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education
High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience
Computer experience. Reception or clerical experience at a healthcare setting preferred. Skills and Abilities: Basic working knowledge of computers. Keyboarding skills required. Excellent customer service along with good verbal and written communication skills required. Must have attention to detail, be able to multi-task and be accurate.
Computer Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.
Knowledge of computers and data entry.

Telephone experience helpful. Cashier experience helpful. This position requires constant sitting as well as frequent use of hands and fingers.
