Havre Public Schools Payroll Clerk & Benefit Specialist in Havre, Montana
This is a 12 month position.SUMMARY:Preforms duties with limited supervision while providing accurate and systematic payroll service. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:-Demonstrates proficiency with a 10-key calculator, PC computer, copier, and other office equipment.-Demonstrates proficiency with computerized systems for Payroll, Account Payable and Accounts Receivable Programs.-Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel & Outlook).-Prepares required government reports, i.e. retirement, IRS, W-2s, etc.-Distributes payroll deductions in compliance with local, state & federal statutes.-Constructs and maintains payroll history files for existing personnel & new hires.-Process two payrolls a month-Maintains retirement records for employees and assists with forms needed.-Updates permanent records for all employees.-Verifies contract amounts, compiles salaries to be paid, adjusts hourly and overtime rates.-Maintains records of substitute days for TRS and rate increases.-Construct and maintain job codes and deductions codes on all employees.-Completes income verifications for employees seeking loans, public assistance etc.-Shreds sensitive material per district protocol.-Cross trains Accounts Receivable clerk in payroll procedures.-Assists the business manager/clerk as needed in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Purchasing and Payroll.-Attends training as requested/required by the district.-Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the position.-Facilitate benefits and insurance by setting up open enrollments, new hires and mid-year changes-Provides support for the front office staff with phone and door coverage.
