US Leader, Code of Conduct Investigations, Director

The primary role of the US Leader of Code of Conduct Investigations is to set strategy and priorities, oversee and manage, and drive adoption of investigative strategies and processes across the Firm.

The Opportunity

Working with business leadership from Talent, Service Lines, Industry Groups, and Core Business Services (CBS) Functions, including the General Counsel’s Office (GCO). The director will lead a centralized Investigation Team and conduct and/or oversee all Code of Conduct related matters.

The position is responsible for addressing and resolving complex employee and Partner/Principal issues or concerns on a wide range of investigation and Code of Conduct topics. The leader will work seamlessly with colleagues from GCO, the business, and Employee Relations Team to investigate relevant matters, make factual findings, provide disciplinary recommendations, and design and/or implement initiatives that foster appropriate accountability to drive business results. Input from leader on root cause of matters will be sought for risk mitigation, including awareness building communications and related training plans. In addition, the leader and team will work with ECRM to conduct case analyses, identify trends, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

Your key responsibilities

  • Create and develop strategy, philosophy, processes, programs, and protocols governing Code of Conduct related investigations, from triage and intake through closure of matters.

  • Hire, manage develop, and evaluate investigative team, communicating clear performance goals and standards, offering regular performance feedback and prompt resolution of issues, and provide team the time and opportunity to grow and develop in key competency areas.

  • Oversee and manage Code of Conduct related investigations, reviewing conclusions and findings for accuracy and consistency.

  • Oversee and continuously improve the investigative process for Code of Conduct related matters to help ensure consistency, fairness, trust, respect, and efficiency.

  • Develop and communicate Investigations Team strategy and priorities to relevant stakeholders to assess scope, headcount and alignment to the Global Code of Conduct and any relevant EY Global or EY US policies and procedures.

  • Develop, implement and measure key performance indicators to measure overall effectiveness to achieve strategic business priorities.

  • Regular consultation with GCO, Talent, and business stakeholders regarding ongoing investigations and related programs and processes.

  • Oversee triage and intake of incoming matters and assign to the proper party to address.

  • Make recommendations regarding plans and initiatives to prevent violations and address root causes.

  • C onsult and coordinate as necessary with EY Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, ECRM Deputy Ethics and Compliance Officer, and other senior ECRM staff concerning Code of Conduct related investigations, investigatory processes, and other matters.

  • Participate as necessary in US Ethics Oversight Committee and ECRM Subcommittee meetings concerning Code of Conduct related investigations, investigatory processes, and other matters.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with GCO, key business stakeholders, Talent Leaders, and Talent Employee Relations team.

  • Initiate change management initiatives and leads constituents through significant changes.

  • Manage large, complex projects.

  • Review performance outcomes, provide feedback and manage retention of the Investigations team members.

  • Assess and implement development opportunities for the team to build subject matter expertise

  • Determine headcount needed, manage budget and resolves resource allocation issues/concerns related to shifting work and priorities of the team.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • 15+ years conducting investigations, preferably with 10+ years’ experience leading a team of investigators.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results, solution oriented, and an ability to lead teams through managing complex and high-risk situations.

  • Substantive knowledge of employee investigations and related employment and labor law & best practices.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with ability to make sound observations and recommendations.

  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written, using a consultative approach, and demonstrating an ability to clearly communicate expectations.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree preferred

  • Ability to work independently with little direction or oversight.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certification or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a Juris doctorate degree

  • Experience in a highly regulated workplace or at a regulator (e.g. financial institutions, accounting firms, SEC etc.)

What we offer

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $205,000 to $405,900. The salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $246,000 to $461,300. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
