Job Title: Embedded Software EngineerJob Description

In this role, you will help design, develop, and test embedded software for cutting-edge medical devices. The ideal candidate is a proactive, self-motivated engineer with strong proficiency in C/C++ programming, comfort working with electronic schematics and diagnostic equipment, and a passion for advancing medical technologies that improve lives.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of embedded system modules within the development lifecycle, from initial requirements gathering, design, and implementation through to testing and validation, ensuring quality and robustness for medical device applications.

  • Design and implement efficient, maintainable, and scalable firmware solutions that meet both technical and regulatory standards, with particular attention to IEC, IEC-1, and other relevant FDA requirements.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams (hardware, software, systems, and testing) to identify and address design constraints and integration challenges.

  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting and debugging of embedded system modules, utilizing industry tools and methodologies to optimize performance, safety, and reliability.

  • Support design review processes, contributing insights based on experience and ensuring adherence to good design principles and system requirements.

  • Continuously improve development practices by incorporating modern tools, techniques, and processes, and provide feedback for lifecycle enhancements.

  • Mentor junior engineers by providing guidance on best practices for design, coding standards, and regulatory compliance within medical device firmware development.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency with C/C++ programming languages.

  • Experience with microcontroller development.

  • Experience working in a regulated industry, ideally medical devices (other regulated industries such as automotive, aerospace/defense, energy, pharma, etc.).

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of experience developing C/C++ in an embedded environment on microprocessors or microcontrollers.

  • Experience developing embedded systems (i.e. microcontroller-based custom products and custom electronics).

  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.

  • Knowledge and exposure to basic hardware design and ability to read schematics.

  • RTOS embedded software development knowledge.

  • Strong knowledge of software development tools (IDEs, compilers, linkers, debuggers).

  • Ability to develop a software architecture and detailed design with supporting descriptions and diagrams.

  • Familiarity with embedded wireless systems.

  • Knowledge of and ability to work in a safety-related quality process. Experience with ISO, FDA, etc. would be a plus.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • C# and Python experience is a plus.

Work Environment

Office setting with an onsite testing lab. You will work with different engineering departments throughout the project/product lifecycle.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
