Central Maine Medical Center Language Services Program Coordinator in Lewiston, Maine

Under the direction of the System Manager of Patient Experience, assumes program coordination for the ongoing development of interpreter/translation services and accessibility program for the Central Maine Healthcare (CMH) system. Coordinates the program systemwide for all departments, supporting patients, family members, caregivers, and team members in alignment with Federal and ADA guidelines. Collaborates with and acts as liaison to state and community agencies ensuring compliance with federal guidelines. Supports the organization through education and training on identifying interpreter and translation needs ensuring delivery of appropriate auxiliary aids and services.
Program Management:
In partnership with the System Manager of Patient Experience this role will be responsible for the following duties.
Essential Duties
Administers the Language Services and Accessibility program, coordinating with all inpatient units, outpatient departments, human resources and state/community agencies.
Serves as an institutional resource and advocate for those patients and/or companions and team members who require language services and/or accessibility.
Coordinates ongoing evaluations of the Language Services and Accessibility program to ensure compliance with federal guidelines and identify any improvements needed.
Communicates policies and procedures including protocol for staff to follow when assessing language services and/or access is needed by patients and/or companions.
Maintains database of internal bilingual team members coordinating fluency testing as appropriate.
Acts as the liaison with all CMH departments to ensure education and training is provided at hire and throughout the year to ensure that all practices and patient care areas have the knowledge and resources needed to uphold CMH service standards and ADA and Federal requirements.
Collaborates on the development and maintenance of policies, procedures, protocols and team member resources on internal portal; to include written materials, presentations, brochures, and partnered resource links.
Reviews effectiveness of services provided and makes recommendations for revisions to enhance the Language Services and Accessibility program.
Ensures that program goals are met in a timely and successful manner consistent with regulatory requirements, organizational goals, priorities, and department policy
Performs a biannual comprehensive report overview and needs analysis of the service area population for Androscoggin County.
Performs other duties as needed.
Auxiliary Aids Duties:
Responsible for the coordination of maintenance, repair, replacement, and distribution of auxiliary aids to ensure that adequate supplies are available as needed throughout CMHC.
Responsible for the oversight of auxiliary aid program and process to ensure patients and companions requiring auxiliary aids receive them in a timely manner.
Proficient with the operation of and proper use of all auxiliary aids.
Education Duties:
Plans, implements, and oversees the delivery of an effective, efficient, and integrated Language Services and Accessibility educational program. Education may include classroom led, virtual based, and informal learning sessions.
Provides training and education to CMHC staff and providers at orientation on an ongoing basis regarding the Language Services and Accessibility program.
Required Education and Experience:
Five or more years of experience in healthcare and/or language services
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Certified Language or American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
