RushShelby Energy (RSE) is a not-for-profit electric distribution, member-owned cooperative. Located in Manilla, Indiana, RSE serves 12,400+ members on 2,150+ miles of energized line within nine (9) East-Central Indiana counties.

RushShelby Energy is looking for qualified candidates for a full-time Journeyman Lineman position. DESCRIPTION

As a Journeyman Lineman at RushShelby, youll perform high voltage switching, including working with energized high-voltage equipment with approved hotline maintenance equipment, taking required clearances to perform work safely. There may be times you will need to keep timesheets and material records for yourself and your crew members. In addition, you will drive and operate specialized vehicular equipment, perform inspections of existing electrical facilities and keep records. Youll install, repair, maintain electrical equipment and distribution lines and assume lead responsibility on assigned work. This position requires working alone and/or working as part of a crew in all weather conditions/climates and environments, day or night and is subject to an on-call rotation and call-out on a 24-hour basis. ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Work with approved hotline maintenance equipment, taking necessary clearances required to do work safely
  • Keep time sheets and material records
  • Drive and operate specialized vehicular equipment
  • Perform inspections of existing electrical facilities
  • Install, repair, and maintain electric distribution lines, cables, and related equipment
  • Read and interpret work orders, job tickets, sketches and other diagrams
  • Connect underground high and low voltage cables to overhead equipment and lines on poles
  • Connect, disconnect and reconnect meters
  • Perform distribution switching and sectionalizing operations on various types of energized equipment
  • Work safely and be accountable for own work
  • Work in all weather conditions/climates and environments, day or night
  • Install, inspect, and maintain conduit, junction boxes, switches, transformers, and connections
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must understand the principles and practices of Journeyman Lineman level work in an electrical and distributions system
  • Knowledge, familiarity, and training with materials, tools, and methods used in electrical construction, installation, and maintenance, and transformer hook-ups and connections for overhead and underground distribution equipment
  • Must be able to splice cables of all types and voltages both de-energized and energized
  • Must be able to: lift up to 50 pounds, bend in all directions, climb ladders and poles, squeeze with arms and hands, pull and lower items up to 100 pounds, correctly and safely use a shovel, swing a sledgehammer, and operate machinery using hands and legs
  • Must possess strong sensory skills, such as good hearing, dexterity and good eyesight, including the use of color perception
  • Must possess strong member service skills
  • Must project a positive public image and maintain satisfactory public relations
  • Must represent the Cooperative with professionalism at all times, including but not limited to during all member and community interactions, while driving a company vehicle, while wearing company logoed apparel, etc.
  • Must have ability to work effectively in a changing environment
  • Must have strong problem-solving and decision-making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems, especially in emergency situations
  • Ability and willingness to respond to after-hours emergenc calls on a 24-hour basis
  • Must participate in the on-call rotation schedule
  • Must work overtime as needed and/or required
  • Must be CPR and First Aid Certified
  • Must participate in all Safety training and education opportunities to include but not limited to: Pole Top Rescue, Bucket Truck Rescue, and Self Rescue
  • Must have ability and willingness to attend meetings, training, conferences that may require travel and/or overnight stays
  • Must have willingness to relocate to / permanently reside in a predefined limit from RSE headquarters
  • Must successfully complete a job-tasked physical-ability evaluation, pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, and individual should have an equivalent of the following education and/or experience:

  • High School Diploma or satisfactory GED equivalent
  • Four years of high voltage Apprentice-level training and work experience is required, which includes successfully completing an accredited four-year apprenticeship program
  • Proficiency with rubber gloving and working with hot sticks
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Indiana Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
