This position will assist the MnDOT Mendota Resident Engineer in the administration of construction contracts and office activities. Specifically, this position will be charged with the supervision and administration of assigned construction contracts; preparation of construction plans and specifications; administration of utility agreements; and supervision of inspection personnel.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years of para-professional engineering experience (e.g., Engineering Specialist) as a grading and/or bridge Chief Inspector that demonstrates the following:
Expert knowledge of all phases of construction practices and procedures of highway and bridge construction and contract administration.
Supervisory or leadwork experience and skills sufficient to ensure construction projects are completed in a timely manner.
Experience evaluating design plans to identify and troubleshoot construction problems and recommend design revisions or changes.
Expert knowledge and application of project documentation necessary to prepare partial estimates and finals estimates for all contract items and all contract changes.
A valid Class D Driver’s license.
If advanced to the finalist pool, in addition to the preceding minimum qualifications you will be assessed on the following criteria during a job interview:
Human relations skills sufficient to negotiate, build consensus, and manage conflict between contractors, utility companies, and stakeholders, as well as to be able to teach and direct others with respect to inspection activities of a highly complex engineering/construction project.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing sufficient to give direction, facilitate meetings, make presentations, and answer project specific and policy questions and to write letters and other documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of experience as an Engineering Specialist working as a Chief Inspector in Contract Administration.
