Position: Administrative Assistant to Judge
Agency: Licking County Domestic Relations Court
Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. -- 4:30 p.m.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
Job Purpose Maintains administrative duties, provides clerical support in and out of the courtroom and assists the Judge as requested. Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations shall be made for disabled persons, covered by the Americans With Disabilities Act, in accordance with its requirements. · Expedite and process the post-trial / conference work. · Set all hearing dates through the case management program. · Process decrees and files. · File documents with the Court as necessary. · Prepare all general entries as directed by the Judge. · Appoint attorneys in pro se contempt cases when requested. · Respond to mail addressed to the Judge containing ex parte communication. · Process attorney fee applications. · Process letters and receipts for early release from jail. · Process agreed entries and case dismissals. · At the direction of the Judge, prepare child support calculation worksheets. · Prepare daily, the next day's docket. · Responsible for the monthly reporting to the Supreme Court of Ohio. · Schedule visiting Judges. · Type various forms as directed by the Judge. · Assist in all positions when needed, due to absentees of other staff members. · Assist other staff members when necessary, in order to maintain the standards and integrity of the Court. · Other duties include, but are not limited to, copy work, answering phones, distributing faxes, and providing general information to the public. · Keep work area in clean and neat order. · During regular hours, remain in work area and do not leave without informing the Judge or Court Administrator.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skills
Knowledge of:
· Applicable procedures and practices of the Court of Domestic Relations, including
familiarity with the Local Rules of Practice.
· All areas of the Court's functions.
· Proper courtroom etiquette.
· Basic computer and office equipment.
Ability to:
· Work independently.
· Communicate with attorneys, the general public, employees, and Court officials in an
effective and courteous manner, both orally and in written form.
· Work under pressure, while maintaining composure when dealing with potentially irate
and hostile litigants.
· Accept constructive criticism and direction.
· Be professional at all times and work cooperatively with all Court personnel, other
departments, other courts, agencies, and providers.
· Maintain regular attendance.
· Arrive at work on time.
· Dress appropriately.
Skill in:
· Effectively use the case management program.
· Operating Window based computer system, printers, and copiers.
· Communicating professionally on the telephone.
· Completing assignments in a timely and accurate manner and free of excessive and/or
recurring mistakes.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
· High School diploma or equivalent
· General knowledge of computer word processing programs and other related computer
programs
Licensure or Certification Requirements · None.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the
ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting productivity
standards.
· Ability to sit continuously at a computer for various periods of time.
