Job Title: Machinist

Job Description

This position operates multiple moderately complex machinery for production parts and basic fabrication tasks within the assigned area under minimal supervision. Works with established instructions and support from the Unit Specialist or trainer. The position is responsible for set-up, operation, and troubleshooting various manual/CNC machines, secondary machinery, and polishing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various secondary, manual machinery, CNC machinery and perform activities within assigned area with moderate supervision including Bridgeport, single turret CNC lathes, vertical CNC mills, CNC brakes, and CNC punch press.

  • Perform routine maintenance, including lubrication and cleaning.

  • Safely and efficiently route parts using material handling equipment.

  • Inspect personal production to achieve and maintain quality standards and may make recommendations for improvement.

  • Actively engage and participate in department continuous improvement efforts. Implement improvements to processes, programs, tooling, and fixturing.

  • Work collaboratively within the team to maintain a neat and organized work station.

  • Achieve and maintain productivity standards, follow all safety guidelines, and maintain an acceptable dependability level.

  • Understand and complete documentation needed to comply with policies and procedures that are appropriate for the position.

  • Follow safety guidelines, must not pose a risk to self or others, identify potential safety hazards and initiate corrective action when necessary.

  • Actively participate in all department, quarterly, and company meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned (refer to the job family and skills matrix).

Essential Skills

  • Experience with machine operation, specifically operating CNC mills, CNC lathes, and CNC Swiss screw machines.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.

  • Proficiency in setting up and troubleshooting various manual/CNC machines.

  • Understanding of routine maintenance procedures including lubrication and cleaning.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with drill press and other secondary machinery.

  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and procedures.

  • Strong manual hand dexterity to grasp and operate tools and equipment repetitively.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver up to 35 pounds routinely and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

The work environment requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or maneuver up to 35 pounds routinely and occasionally up to 50 pounds. The position demands manual hand dexterity to grasp and operate tools and equipment repetitively. Employees must be able to walk, stand, sit, bend, reach, and occasionally kneel, climb steps, and twist throughout an entire shift. Some areas may be exposed to chemicals, noise, vibration, and/or dust, and require the use of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and foot protection. The ability to wear respiratory protection and comply with OSHA’s respirator use requirements is also necessary.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newberg, Oregon.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
