Chenango County Community Mental Health Nurse in Norwich, New York

Chenango County's Behavioral Health Services department has an opening for a Community Mental Health Nurse. This is a professional nursing position in the Chenango County Behavioral Health Services Department responsible for providing psychiatric nursing care to mentally ill, chemically dependent, and developmentally disabled clients. The incumbent performs a variety of nursing activities as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team, provides individual, family, and group therapy, and coordinates treatment efforts with other community agencies. The position differs from that of Registered Professional Nurse and Community Health Nurse in the Public Health Department, and from Correctional Facility Nurse in the Sheriffs Office because of the incumbents role as primary therapist to a caseload of clients and their families, and because of responsibility for monitoring a clients physical and emotional reactions to psychotropic medications and the effectiveness of such medications. A small amount of travel is required to fulfill the duties of this position. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Mental Health Clinic Treatment Program Coordinator and the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services Program Coordinator with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the duties of the position. Supervision over the work of others is not normally a requirement of an employee in this class. Does related work as required.<p> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of an Associates Degree or higher in Nursing. Special Requirements: 1. At time of appointment and continuing throughout employment a candidate/incumbent must possess current licensure and registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. 2. At time of appointment and continuing throughout employment a candidate/incumbent must possess a valid New York State Drivers License, a reliable vehicle, and a driving record acceptable to the Countys insurance carrier. 3. At time of appointment and continuing throughout employment, candidates/incumbents must not be named on the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Inspector General, List of Exclusions and/or the New York State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General Medicaid Terminations or Exclusions List.<p> A civil service examination will be required for permanent appointment at a later date.
