Indian Health Service Medical Support Assistant (Dental) in Parker, Arizona

Summary This position is located in the Dental Department at the Colorado River Service Unit, Parker, AZ. The position serves as a Medical Support Assistant and is responsible for performing secretarial duties including but not limited to preparing travel, training requests and timekeeping for all Dental Department. In addition, verifies medical records in compliance with billing requirements. This position is supervised through the Chief Dental Officer. Responsibilities Major Duties: Performs record keeping for time and attendance through automated systems and manual process. Verifies medical records contain proper documentation in accordance with regulations. Performs audits and reviews to ensure documentation and accountability of all health insurance claims are submitted. Provides technical assistance to dental staff on billing office program and functions. Compiles and inputs data entry related to dental services. Maintains confidentiality of all patient data and health insurance claims. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 40 hours per week. You will need to set up direct deposit so we can pay you. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- GS-5: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Knowledge of established procedures and required forms associated with various health insurance programs; Establishes day-to-day billing procedures for all third-party dental billing collections. Performing a variety of receptionist duties such as receiving patients, answer telephone calls; compile and input data entry relative to dental services. ;OR Successfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation; OR Combination of education and specialized experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Transcripts must be submitted with application. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- GS-6: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Knowledge of established procedures and required forms associated with various health insurance programs; Serve as timekeeper to maintain and audit time records; Performs audit and reviews to ensure all health insurance claims submitted for payment. Coordinates and monitor dental billing office performance improvement activities. Serves as dental billing advisor to provide technical assistance to dental staff. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
