About the role

A Senior Applications Engineer is responsible for providing technical, solution and modeling support both to SPSE’s sales team and directly to customers, within the Energy & Chemicals Business Unit. It is a customer-facing role that requires a self-motivated individual capable of building strong technical relationships with major customers, and who has strong communication and persuasion skills along with excellent process, industry and technical knowledge.

Areaof responsibility

  • Performing pre-salesactivities supporting SPSE software and consulting sales, including

  • leadingtechnical communication with potential SPSE customers, coordinating withSPSE subject matter experts where required

  • using yourtechnical knowledge to match customers’ requirements to SPSE’s softwareand consulting offerings

  • defining andexecuting software evaluation plans and executing ‘proof-of-concept’demonstration projects

  • responding towritten inquiries (e.g. Request For Information).

  • Undertaking businessdevelopment for the Energy & Chemicals BU, including

  • presentingSPSE’s software and consulting services to prospects

  • workingclosely with the Sales team to provide technical input and guidance

  • developingand nurturing prospects to achieve software and consulting sales.

  • identifyingand targeting sales opportunities and new leads, making targeted salesprospecting calls to existing SPSE customers and new prospects whereappropriate.

  • Technical AccountManagement aimed at building positive and lasting client relationships tohelp ensure the continued successful use of SPSE’s software products andconsulting services

  • Providing post-salesproduct and application support for SPSE’s gPROMS software

  • Preparing andconducting training courses

  • Providing marketingsupport, including

  • technicalassistance in preparation of marketing materials (e.g. white papers)

  • presenting atand attending at trade shows and conferences.

  • Inputting customer andmarket requirements into new product development:

  • gatheringrequirements, user feedback and enhancement requests

  • proposingformulations for new models based on internal and client requirements.

  • Maintaining andupdating key solution, technical, industry and communication skills

Yourqualifications

  • A Master’s degree orPhD in Chemical Engineering. A minimum of 3 years commercial experiencewithin the Chemical, Petrochemical, Refining or Oil & Gas industries

  • First-principlesmodelling experience is an advantage

  • Understanding of thetechnical, business and regulatory challenges within the Energy andChemicals sector

  • Ability to understandcustomer requirements and build relationships

  • Experience withgPROMS®, SPEEDUP®, ACM®, Dymola® or another equation-oriented modelingtool is an advantage.

  • Experience with HYSYS,Aspen Plus, PRO II or other process simulation tools is an advantage

  • Good presentation andclient interaction skills

  • Excellent oral andwritten English language skills

  • Ability to workindependently and as a team member

  • Ability to prioritizescheduled tasks and react to unexpected problems

  • Willing to travelwithin the USA and occasionally Europe
