The SEK Interlocal is accepting applications for an Instructional Coach with a primary focus of supporting early years inclusion/resource teachers. Candidates must have a valid Kansas special education teaching license, or a building leadership license, and a minimum of 5 years teaching students with disabilities in an inclusion/resource setting. Advanced knowledge and skills in instructional best practice implementing specially designed instruction, and supervising classified staff including setting expectations and training of classified staff is required.

POSITION SUMMARY:The Instructional Coach will work with first, and second year special education teachers to strengthen their ability to effectively manage paras and deliver instruction in a variety of ways in order to increase the outcomes for students with disabilities. Additionally, the Instructional Coach will lead mentor activities, and participate in planning and delivery of professional development activities. The Instructional Coach may also support other departmental staff in curricular development and participate in collaborative team efforts to troubleshoot hotspots.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide coaching and feedback to help teachers implement strategies and interventions with fidelity to meet classroom student learning and behavioral goals.
  2. Conduct informal classroom observations and provide immediate non-evaluative feedback for the purpose of instructional support and program improvement.
  3. Assist in setting best practice expectations and training with classified staff related to instructional and classroom best practice.
  4. Assist teachers and support staff in using research-based strategies, universal design for learning and differentiated instruction.
  5. Facilitate professional learning opportunities/departmental meetings that promote achievement for all students.
  6. Lead in the planning and implementation of the SEK Interlocal Mentor program.
  7. Lead in the development, adoption, and implementation of special education curriculum and instructional methods consistent with KSDE initiatives.
  8. Work with IEP teams in the development and implementation of effective targeted student management strategies and positive behavior supports that increase student outcomes.
  9. Provide support to staff in developing IDEA compliant IEPs and due process paperwork.
  10. Participate in continuous growth opportunities to deepen knowledge in curricular, instructional and leadership practice.
  11. Meet with the SEK Interlocal Leadership Team weekly or bimonthly as appropriate.
  12. Maintain appropriate confidentiality with records and professional relationships.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or the Assistant Directors of Special Education.
