General Maintenance Worker

POSITION SUMMARY:

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of equipment and building systems. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regular attendance at the assigned location of the DPH Lab, Rocky Hill, CT.

  • Respond to temporary or permanent building system maintenance and repair calls including basic electrical, mechanical, and minor plumbing repairs.

  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance service on all systems and equipment.

  • Complete routine maintenance of systems and equipment.

  • Assist other trade groups as required.

  • Install or replace machinery, equipment, and the associated parts/instruments using hand or power tools

  • Examine and test HVAC systems, machinery, equipment, components, and parts for defects to ensure proper functioning and safe operation.

  • Assist with repairs of systems and equipment.

  • Respond to after hours emergencies on an as needed basis. Note: Employee compensated for four hours minimum at the employee’s preapproved OT rate.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Follow plans and instructions from supervisors or more experienced workers.

  • Strict adherence to all safety rules and quality.

  • Interact with all co-workers and clients in an attentive courteous manner.

  • At times may perform clerical/administrative duties.

  • Knowledge of boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, gearboxes, electrical, and other applicable equipment.

  • May be required to attend classes, seminars, or training to achieve certifications necessary to advance.

EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • OSHA 10

  • Previous experience working in GLP or GMP environment as a general technician and understanding boilers, pumps, HVAC equipment, etc. is a plus.

  • Licensed trade preferred. (P-1, S-1 or other licensed trade)
