Navy Federal Credit Union VP Group Operations Manager-OMBP in San Antonio, Texas

Overview

The Group Operations Manager manages teams that are responsible for essential applications and host systems for the Overseas Military Banking Program (OMBP). This individual is accountable for the host systems and applications used by OMBP. Decisions are guided by policies, resources, and business plans and needs. The Leadership impact of this position is gauged by the level of service and the team's ability to meet user expectations, provide quality updates and planning for future enhancements and changes. It is a senior-level technology position, demonstrating a thorough knowledge of information technology concepts, issues, trends, and best practices as they relate to the umbrella of digital applications and mainframe environments being managed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with other high level IT professionals, business strategists, specialized technicians, business process experts, vendors, developers and business partners.

  • Solves complex problems that have direct and critical impact on banking operations and strategic IT priorities.

  • Credible expert advisor to peers and internal/external business partners; trusted advisor to Leadership.

  • Creates improved IT materials, tools, work aids, and processes related to Application and Host System Management.

  • Coaches less experienced product owners, business technology analysts, and system programmers in their specific disciplines.

  • Collaborates on operational/tactical business issues with internal business partner managers and subject matter experts. Provides information and effectively interacts with external vendors, suppliers, auditors, and business partners.

    Key responsibilities include:

  • Develops and executes product and application strategy to align with business objectives

  • Leads innovation in product development, technology adoption, and long-term technology roadmaps for applications and digital services

  • Prioritizes product features and enhancements based on market trends, customer insights, and business needs

  • Manages the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of core applications, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance

  • Drives continuous improvement in customer experience by leveraging technology, data, and user engagement metrics

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including retail teams, business controls, operations, and customer support, to align application and product strategies

  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, security standards, and best practices in product and application management

  • Develop strategic partnerships with vendors and technology providers to enhance product capabilities

  • Communicates application and product strategy updates, risks, and milestones effectively with stakeholders and senior leadership

  • Leads staff in the definition of project scope, plans and deliverables, including cost projections and proposed implementation dates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, information technology, computer science, or other related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Experience in leading, guiding, and coaching professional staff.

  • Experience in resource allocation and management.

  • Experience in managing personnel and information technology resources.

  • Advanced knowledge of Service Delivery Life Cycle (SDLC).

  • Experience in working with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders and vendors.

  • Effective relationship-building, negotiation and facilitation skills.

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.

  • Advanced research, analytical and problem-solving skills; to include summarizing information and clearly identifying key elements, patterns, results, and relationships.

  • Effective skill in presenting findings, conclusions, alternatives and information, clearly and concisely.

  • Strategic planning and implementation skills.

  • In-depth knowledge of industry and market trends related to banking applications and mainframe operations, and emerging technologies.

  • Familiarity with FIS Systematics Core Banking System

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in strategy, application management or fintech leadership

  • Strong understanding of financial products, digital services and financial technologies

  • Familiarity with process improvement, project management, application management and strategy development

    Additional Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Execute Incident Management Protocols for day-to-day issues encountered and collaborate with IT and Vendor partners as needed

  • Significant experience in problem resolution including determining root cause, scope and scale of issues in a support role

  • Serve as lead in analyzing business requirements, system requirements and executing design & configuration based on new or enhanced business processes

  • Significant experience in leading collaborative work teams

  • Build, manage and own all product administration policies and procedures

  • Experience in leading large projects/initiatives which have business risk and impact

  • Significant experience in managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals

  • Significant experience in project management to include establishing and leading project teams, managing timelines/deadlines/resources and ensuring successful project implementation

    Desired Qualifications

  • 10+ years working for a Financial Institution

  • Core Bank Processing and digital banking application experience

  • Extensive project / product management experience

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams.
