We are Checkout, part of the Purchase Experience team at Amazon and our mission is to build the fastest checkout experience that will revolutionize how hundreds of millions of customers shop on Amazon. Collectively our team builds experiences that empower customers to collect and manage the items they intend to buy; provide the critical order details that enable them to make informed purchase decisions; surface contextual product and program-related benefits/recommendations to help them basket build and deepen their relationship with Amazon. We celebrate purchase completion while guiding them towards the next step of their shopping journey. Our team of builders support the software, systems, and processes that enable 300+ teams at Amazon to innovate on behalf of our customers each year in the final stages of a customer’s purchase journey.
We're looking for talented engineers to join our team that's focused on creating lightning-fast, friction-less checkout experiences for Amazon's retail website.
Why this role matters?
You will have significant influence on Amazon's Checkout experiences by helping define new product features, drive the system architecture, and spearhead the best practices that enable a quality product. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and business intelligence engineers to create, measure, analyze and refine the checkout experiences. While the role is well defined, we encourage engineers to cross boundaries and learn from other Amazonians and even influence them to make the best choice for our customers.
Key job responsibilities
Design and implement high-performance, scalable checkout solutions.
Lead technical design discussions and mentor junior engineers
Collaborate with teams across Amazon to build new and optimize existing checkout experiences.
Drive technical decisions that support checkout speed and reliability.
Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software.
Own end-to-end delivery of features from design to production launch.
A day in the life
You will work alongside other Checkout engineers to build new Checkout experiences and maintain existing ones. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with engineers, product managers, UX designers and researchers, and business intelligence engineers to innovate, measure, analyze and refine the experiences we deliver to millions of customers on a daily basis. Our roles are all well defined, but we encourage engineers to cross boundaries and learn from and influence other roles.

Basic Qualifications
3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
