All applicants must be willing, able and qualified to perform the work described in the job order and must be available for the entire period of employment specified in Boxes 3&4 on Page 1. This work order is for willing, able and qualified people to perform a variety of orchard work harvesting and packing apples at an apple orchard. Packing line work includes but is not limited to; sorting apples according to size, color and grade before packing; lining boxes, cartons or crates with treated paper or cardboard; placing apples in containers for storage or shipment; weighing, stamping, branding and dating of packing on container, and packing apples according to the quality and method required by the employer. Work requires long periods of standing and bending and kneeling. Workers must be able to lift and carry up to 50 Pounds. Workers must be able to perform general orchard work. This work includes bin repair and construction; equipment maintenance; nursery stock grafting; harvesting apples, pears, peaches, and other fruit as season and conditions allow. Workers will be outside in varied weather conditions with temperatures as low as 0 degrees Fahrenheit and as high as 90 degrees Fahrenheit. They may be required to work on ground covered with up to 2 feet of snow. Orchard workers must be able to plant, prune, water and train trees. Workers will perform other field work such as weeding, thinning, hoeing, they may be required to undertake other duties related to the planting and maintenance of berries. Workers may need to drive tractors, pick up brush from orchard floor, construct and repair wooden apple bins, as well as perform other farm related duties as the need arises such as installing field drainage tile, construction of trellis posts and installation of posts, build and repair farm structures (repairing stone walls, roof and irrigation work, etc.). Workers may be required to drive/operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing (whether on or off the farm) to the farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach farmer\'s fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store, bank, or laundry facilities on an as-needed basis. Those that are requested to drive will be required to possess a valid drivers license; no worker will be rejected for not having a driver\'s license. Workers must be able to press apples and bottle sweet cider into clean cider equipment. Workers must be able to slice apples and clean slicing equipment. Workers must be able to handle and climb a 20-foot ladder repetitively while carrying a picking bucket which is harnessed over the workers shoulders. During harvest, productivity must be at least 60 1-1/8-bushel boxes per 7 hours worked with no more than 5% bruising for fresh market. The employer will provide 1 day of training and allow 2 days of work for the workers to satisfactorily perform duties described in this job description. Workers may be required to work 9-hour shifts between the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm on Sunday to Monday and workers may require to work 9-hour shift between the hours of 7:00am to 7:00pm from Wednesday through Saturday. Bonuses may be offered to any seasonal worker employed pursuant to this job order, at the companys sole discretion, based on individual factors including work performance, skill, and tenure. The employer will furnish all tools and equipment required at no cost to workers. Workers will be given at least a 30-minute lunch break which is staggered between 11am to 1pm as decided by the workers. Workers may choose where to eat their lunch and return to work after their 30 minutes are up. Beginning and ending times will var depending on the conditions in the orchard, customer orders and other needs. Workers must be able to take direction in simple English.
