Direct Care Staff Trainer

Job Description/Person Specifications

POSITION:

Direct Care Staff

LOCATION OF DUTIES:

As Specified by the Incorporation

PURPOSE:

Supervise individuals in daily life and routine activities. Monitor individuals behavior and physical condition and report changes no nursing staff and participate in the execution of treatment plans and assigned activities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports to and works under the direct supervision of Provider/Program coordinator.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1) Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities preferred.

2) Current Alabama drivers license and good driving record.

3) Clear criminal record as checked by personnel.

4) High school diploma or GED.

5) Negative pre-employment drug screen required.

COMPETENCIES:

1) Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

2) Must be able to work effectively in a group situation.

3) Must be able to work within the organization to serve the needs of individuals.

4) Excellent understanding of training methods used in working with the intellectually disabled required.

5) Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds.

6) Must be able to complete and maintain annual certification requirements for CPR/First Aid

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to policies and procedures.

2) Ensure that all assigned duties are implemented according to Department of Mental Health, Medicaid, and sub-contracting standard.

3) Ensure all safety, fire prevention and health measures are followed while on duty.

4) Ensure that a good driving record is maintained at all times, particularly in transporting individuals or driving and performing related business

5) Provide transportation for individuals as needed and take them to appointments and outings as assigned.

6) Work weekends, holidays, and overnight as scheduled.

7) Record all important information on Individual Record of Events sheets and in the Daily Log and ensure that appropriate information is communicated to other staff regarding appointments and other relevant individual matters.

8) Attend in-service trainings as scheduled.

9) Implement planned programs for leisure time activities.

10) Assist and ensure individuals attendance to scheduled program activities/groups.

11) Document appropriate information in individual records promptly and accurately.

12) Ensure cleanliness of facility

13) Perform routine checks of individuals, ensuring appropriateness and safety, providing monitoring of individuals at all times while on duty.

14) Participate in the development of individuals habilitation plans and in other scheduled team meetings.

15) Carry out training programs as assigned and record training data in a timely manner.

16) Carry out behavior management programs and/or behavior strategies as outlined. Assist RCSII State Certification Staff and others, as needed, during monitoring site visits.

17) Document medication administered accurately.

18) Complete incident reports in a timely manner.

19) Report necessary information to supervisor in a timely fashion.

20) Ensure individuals are properly groomed.

21) Ensure that appropriate information is communicated to nurses and other staff regarding relevant individual matters.

22) All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Maintain communication and awareness of current events by reading memos, emails, bullet boards and communication logs.

2) Work independently and/or with teams to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely manner and minimum supervision.
