THE JOB
The Vessel Port Captain is responsible for day-to-day vessel and crew management with an emphasis on vessel efficiency and technology improvements for Tidewater's Columbia and Snake River Operations. The individual in this position reports to the Marine Operations Manager, collaborates with individuals and groups across the organization, is responsible for assisting with the direct supervision of vessel personnel, and manages the Assistant Port Captain. In addition, this position is involved in the selection of personnel, promotion and training, crewing of marine vessel personnel. They should also expect to oversee governmental and state regulatory and safety compliance standards, vessel incident investigations, vessel repair, coordination of vessel schedules and operations, and developing and executing operating standards designed to ensure regulatory compliance of personnel and vessels consistent with company policies and practices.
Other responsibilities include:
Assists with the management of performance of marine vessel personnel, including Captains, Pilots, Deck Mechanics, and associated Apprentice positions, including those employees working in a modified-duty capacity.
Conducts performance evaluations and final check rides of Deck Officers and Deck Mechanics using pre-defined performance criteria.
Leads the development of vessel personnel training and development programs (Apprentice Mate Steersman and Apprentice Deck Mechanic Programs).
Participates in vessel related incident investigations and follows up on appropriate corrective actions as necessary.
Manages and conducts internal and external audits and surveys of all vessels, as well as the resulting corrective actions and follow-up work with customers and regulatory bodies for vessel audits.
Recommends and authorizes expenditures within scope of authority related to appropriate maintenance and repairs of all vessels.
Assists with scheduling and managing crew related activities as needed to ensure appropriate levels of qualified personnel are available for operational needs.
Participates in labor contract negotiations and may act as company representative in labor relations grievance hearings.
Serves as a certified collector for Tidewater's Drug & Alcohol Program.
THE PAY & BENEFITS
Position Salary Range: $119,651.00 - $179,477.00 (depending on experience and qualifications)

THE CATCH
A high school diploma or equivalent with education and experience in a related function or industry. Educational background and experience in the marine industry preferred.
Demonstrated experience in the inland towing industry, preferably on inland river systems. Columbia and Snake River System experience highly preferred.
Demonstrated ability to manage vessel crew operations and personnel.
