Responsible for administering occupational modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff occupational therapist.
Description:
Job Qualifications:
A.Education:AA Degree from a school or college approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
B.Personal Job-Related Skills:Knowledge of physical medicine, therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology.Knowledge of therapy machine operation, maintenance and repairs of same.Effective oral and written communication skills.
C.Licensure, Registry or Certification:Occupational Therapy Assistant currently licensed by the State of Texas.

Experience:
1.
Prior work experience:One year experience in all aspects of Occupational Therapy preferred.
2.
Technical Training:Current BLS required. CPI required.
E.
Physical and Mental Requirements:Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking.Bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and lifting up to 50 pounds.Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may become weak or helpless.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A.
Responsible for providing treatment as directed by the Director of Rehab and/or staff occupational therapist.Adheres to standards of physical medicine practice.
B.
Ability to observe and evaluate treatment effectively; discuss observations with staff occupational therapist.
C.
Ability to perform components of an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy.This includes pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients and the general patient population.
D.
Assists with formulation of a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and assesses effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate, staff occupational therapist is apprised of conclusions.
E.
Demonstrates knowledge of therapy modalities.
F.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
G.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
H.
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
I.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
J.
Participates in educational staff performance improvement inservices.Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members, participates in guidance and educational programs.
K.
Assists in ordering supplies, maintains adequate PAR levels to assure all supplies and equipment is readily available.
L.
Participates in infection control, departmental training equipment training and organizational QAPI activities.
M.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
N.
Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
