Connecticut State Job Bank Diesel Mechanic in Waterford, Connecticut

The Town of Waterford Public Works Department is looking to hire a Mechanic.

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Perform mechanical repairs on Town of Waterford vehicles and equipment. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. General maintenance.
  2. Brake service.
  3. Transmission repair.
  4. Drive axle, maintenance and repair.
  5. Welding and fabrication.
  6. Hydraulic systems repair.
  7. Prepare and maintain repair work orders.
  8. Perform diagnostics for electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems.
  9. Engine maintenance and repair.
  10. Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skill and Ability) Considerable knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment usual to automotive and heavy equipment repairs; considerable knowledge of operating principles of gasoline, diesel engines, transmissions and hydraulic systems and of all equipment usual to Public Works applications. Ability to follow standard practices and methods of equipment repairs; ability to follow written and oral instructions, work without supervision and overtime as necessary. Must own basic hand tools up to 1 . Tool count should be approximately 750 to 1,000 pieces: Wrenches to 1 , metric to 19 mm; Sockets to 1 , metric to 30 mm; Miscellaneous Screwdrivers, Allen and Torx bits; Impact tools and Sockets; Chisels and Punches; Test Light, Ohm Meter; Hammer and Roll cab tool box. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand, walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or crawl, sometimes in awkward positions. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 150-200 lbs; and be able to stand on concrete floors for the work period. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. EDUCATION and TRAINING: Not less than five (5) years experience in automotive and heavy equipment repairs, or in lieu thereof, not less than two (2) years of technical training with not less than three (3) years experience in same. Have and maintain Commercial Drivers License B (CDL).
