Employer and Supervisor:The Front Desk Receptionist reports to the Director. The Sedgwick County Extension Executive Board provides compensation. National holidays are paid, and benefits are provided.
Location:Sedgwick County Extension Education Center, 7001 W. 21^st^St. N., Wichita, KS
Position type:Full-time, 40 hours a week. This position could be split into two part-time positions (morning and afternoon shifts, 20 hours per week) for the right candidates. Please specify preferred hours in cover letter.
General responsibilities:Serves as front desk professional, answer phone calls, and greets customers for a busy Extension office.
Pay rate:Starting at \$17.00, or higher depending on skills and experience.
Detailed responsibilities:
- Greet and assist/direct the public.
- Answer phone & direct calls.
- Be familiar with current Extension programming to assist the public.
- Assist people in locating publications requested.
- Be familiar with staff schedules to respond to phone calls & office visits.
- Keep the reception area neat.
- Order publications from K-State as budget dollars allow.
- Order manuals and radon kits from K-State as needed.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Check out/in rental keys and ensure that renters have picked up/returned them.
- Check out/in soil & hay probes and ensure they are returned in good condition.
- Balance cash drawer and maintain sales on iPad as needed.
- Provide the public with instructions on collecting soil and water samples properly.
- Assist the public with filling out forms for soil/water tests and collecting payments and send to the appropriate campus department.
- Assist with appointment walk-ins during the Medicare open enrollment period.
- Oversee postage and mailing processes.
- Assist the public with general questions and refer them to the appropriate office/organization.
- Other duties as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Prefer to have previous experience working in an office setting managing multiple priorities.
- Must be able to take initiative, solve problems, and improve program efficiency.
- Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Must have excellent customer service and time management skills.
- Ability to manage workload with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

This work is primarily sedentary and will be performed at a desk or in the office environment. The work may require some repetitive movement of the arms and hands.
